Sacramento authorities are working a shooting incident that broke out on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area just as deputies were shutting down an unlawful assembly of a crowd of several hundred.
What Led to the Shooting
Law enforcement were first called Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 to Howe Park just after 6:30 PM after obtaining information of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. After that, another report was received about a reported physical confrontation occurring within the park grounds.
Aerial units flew over the park but reported no active disturbance. Despite this, authorities discovered that several hundred individuals had come together at the location without any permit or approval.
When the Shots Rang Out
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies set about removing people from the park by setting up around the park's perimeter and broadcasting over loudspeakers ordering the crowd to disperse at once. Around 15 minutes were allowed for individuals to vacate.
It was during this dispersal that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition cut through the air. The rapid succession of shots triggered a stampede. Law enforcement quickly moved to identifying shooting victims.
The Shooting Victims
Ultimately, four individuals were confirmed as gunshot victims. The victims — including a female and three males all reportedly in their 20s at the time of the incident — were airlifted or driven to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical teams reported that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one sustained moderate wounds, and one had injuries classified as minor. According to authorities, all four were in stable condition.
Sacramento Metro Fire assisted at the location and aided in treating those who had been shot at the scene.
The Investigation
The main crime scene was believed to have taken place along the Cottage Way corridor alongside the Home Depot on the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Law enforcement investigators located additional shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were identified in the wrought iron perimeter fencing alongside the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries confirmed that a shooter had been firing southward from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot. The store itself was placed on lockdown while the scene was active. CSI units alongside detectives kept processing evidence well into the night.
Suspect Information
Reports confirmed via scanner audio confirmed that a suspect Kia was intercepted in the Solano County area. Four individuals were stopped and detained. Deputies were sent to retrieve the detainees to bring the suspects back for investigation. Footage analyzed by investigators made clear that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
